In honor of Mother's day we sat down with KILLIAN Jewelry's founder and designer Killian Rieder to talk about the challenges, joys and meaning of being a mom.  Killian happily juggles motherhood with being an uber business woman and in this interview shares some personal reflections we can all take inspiration from.

W: What are the biggest challenges of motherhood?

K: Balance.  I guess that is for most people - BALANCE!  Feeling good about the amount of time at work, at home and for yourself and how to raise kids to be mentally healthy kids.  How many activities should they be in? How hard do you push them?

W: What has surprised you the most about being a mom?

K: The amount of love I have for my children is incredible. You understand some of those stories of women who picked up cars when their child was pinned under them.  It's love.

W: How do your children inspire you in your work?

K: They are so beautiful, unique and precious. Pure flawless beauty. They inspire me to create beautiful, meaningful pieces that try to capture that sense of perfection.

W: What would you like your children and grandchildren to remember about you?

K: Smart. Hard working. Loving. And FUN!  The last one I would want my grandchildren to think #1!

W: Tell me about your mom.

K: My mom was special!  Way ahead of her time.  She raised 4 successful children while working full time. She was a Dean of Economics at WSU, ran for U.S. Congress two times and was a tremendous volunteer in the community.  As a mother she expected her children to be good people and she led by example.

W: What advice did your mom give you that you remember best?

K: The person you marry is the most important decision in your life!

W: What was the best gift you ever gave your mom on Mother's Day?

K: Jewelry, most definitely.

W: What is the best gift you ever received for Mother's Day?

K: My husband's birthday is always within a day or 2 of Mother's Day, so one of us always gets neglected.  I have a 6 and an 8 year old, so it's always a gorgeous piece of art.  But the BEST gift was when I was 8 months pregnant and Jeff - my husband - got me a pregnant teddy bear.  I laughed so hard... I still have that pregnant teddy bear.

W: What advice do you have for someone when thinking about what to get their mom for mother's day?

K: Hello!  KILLIAN Jewelry of course!  We have so many beautiful things she would enjoy and their are heirloom pieces that will stay in the family for generations.
